Responsibly Sourced Fiber and Biodiversity
As a paperboard converter and supplier to major consumer packaged goods (CPG) companies, Diamond plays a key role in preserving forests and maintaining biodiversity in forest ecosystems.
Diamond remains committed to sourcing fiber from responsibly-managed forests and working with supply chain partners that share our commitment to the environment.
FSC® Chain of Custody Certified
Diamond has obtained Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC) Chain of Custody certification from Preferred by Nature (formerly NEPCon).
FSC certification demonstrates our continued commitment to environmental responsibility. By utilizing paperboard sourced from responsibly managed forests, we can help businesses empower consumers to make more sustainable choices.
About FSC Certification
The Forest Stewardship Council sets standards for responsible forest management. Chain of Custody certification guarantees that wood that comes from certified, responsibly managed forestlands is tracked throughout the supply chain, from the forest to the consumer. Conscientious consumers can look for the FSC logo on wood or paper products to know they are supporting forest management that protects biodiversity and supports local communities.
FSC certification reflects a growing trend in the paper and printing industry of companies making more environmentally and socially responsible supply chain decisions.
FSC Core Labor Requirements
While the protection of workers’ rights has always been part of FSC’s principles and mandatory for forest management certificate holders, the new FSC Core Labor Requirements have now also been included in the FSC Chain of Custody standard (FSC-STD-40-004-v3-1).
Diamond Packaging conforms to FSC Core Labor Requirements.
About Preferred by Nature
Preferred by Nature is an international non-profit organization working to support better land management and business practices that benefit people, nature and the climate. They do this through a unique combination of sustainability certification services, projects supporting awareness raising, and capacity building. For more information visit their website.
Protecting Forests for Future Generations
The Forest Stewardship Council sets standards for responsible forest management. A voluntary program, FSC uses the power of the marketplace to protect forests for future generations.
FSC harnesses market demand to ensure forests are responsibly managed. Because FSC is the gold standard in forest certification, it is the only system supported by groups such as WWF, Sierra Club, Greenpeace, Natural Resources Defense Council and National Wildlife Federation.
Today, more than 380 million acres of forest are certified under FSC’s system, including more than 150 million acres in the U.S. and Canada.
The Value of FSC
FSC-certified forests have environmental, economic and social benefits.
As the world’s most trusted sustainable forest management solution, FSC labeling tells customers that the materials used originate from sustainable and legal sources.
Forests For All Forever
The world’s most reputable environmental organizations recognize FSC as the most trusted certification system for forest management.
It means you can trust that this and other FSC-certified products come from forests managed to keep them intact and healthy for the people and animals who depend on them – for all, forever.
FSC Materials and Suppliers
Diamond carefully evaluates all materials and suppliers in an effort to make the best recommendation for your product.
Our suppliers include Clearwater Paper, which has earned Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certification and is recognized by The Rainforest Alliance, a nonprofit international conservation organization, for integrating environmental and social sustainability into their work.
Other FSC-certified suppliers include: Billerud, Ecological Fibers, Iggesund Paperboard, Metsä Group, Neenah, Sappi, Stora Enso, and WestRock.
Sustainable Sourcing Metrics
Certified Paperboard
Diamond tracks progress on sustainable sourcing of certified paperboard products.
In 2022 over 99% of all packaging was made from renewable or recycled paperboards, many FSC-certified.
We set a target to increase the use of certified paperboards by 1% per year over the next 10 years (10% total), based on a 2012 baseline. In 2022, 99% of all paperboard purchases came from certified sources, exceeding our target. In 2023, our goal is to purchase at least 99.5% of all paperboard from certified sources. (From Sustainability Report 2023.)

FSC Labeling
Many companies are looking at sustainable packaging design as one aspect of the larger role of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), which includes sustainability, diversity, and socially responsible business practices. They recognize that brands, including many smaller boutique brands, are winning over consumers by doing “the right thing”.
Diamond is certified to apply FSC on-product labels with the following claims: MIX and RECYCLED. The FSC on-product logo can be used on brands’ folding cartons when utilizing FSC certified paperboard.
Conscientious consumers can look for the FSC logo on paper products to know they are supporting forest management that protects biodiversity and supports local communities.

Why Sustainable Packaging Matters
Sustainable Packaging Unwrapped
Consumers are paying more and more attention to their purchasing decisions when it comes to packaging. According to a recent survey of consumers from the US & UK by Globalwebindex, the percentage of consumers who are willing to pay more for eco-friendly packaging has grown from 47% to 59% in just seven years.
Globescan Study
In a global consumer survey conducted by Globescan, consumers want to make sustainability-focused purchasing decisions and trusted third-party certification labels play an increasingly important role.
The Globescan survey found that 56% of the surveyed consumers worldwide (a total of 12,000 consumers from 15 countries) recall seeing the FSC label and over 61% say they would probably pay more for an FSC labeled product.
